Book: “Bridge to Terabithia” by Katherine Paterson (1977) The life of a ten-year-old boy in rural Virginia expands when he becomes friends with a newcomer who subsequently meets an untimely death trying to reach their hideaway, Terabithia, during a storm.

Movie: “Bridge to Terabithia” Released in theaters February 16, 2007. Starring Josh Hutcherson, Zooey Deschanel, Robert Patrick and Emma Fenton, “Bridget to Terabithia,” relates the story of a preteen's life, which is forever changed after befriending the new girl at school.

National Tuba Day - May 6, 2011

Join us as we celebrate National Tuba day today!

Here are some interesting facts about Tubas:

-- Prussian Wilhelm Wieprecht and German Johann Gottfried patented the tuba in the key of F in Prussia in 1835.

  • -- Tubas come in different keys for use in different situations. For example, tubas in the keys of F and C are most commonly used in orchestras, while those in E flat and B flat are usually used in marching and brass bands.
    -- The tuba is made of around 16 feet of tubing and commonly has three or four valves.

Have you heard 
about the new TumbleBooks craze?

What's TumbleBooks you ask?

TumbleBooks are a great, FREE way to share the enjoyment of children's books with your child. 

According to TumbleBooks.com, "TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of TumbleBooks – animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.

The TumbleBookLibrary is a collection of licensed titles from children's book publishers such as 
Simon & Schuster, Chronicle Books, Candlewick Press, Charlesbridge Press, Harcourt, Little Brown, Walker & Company, Lerner Books, HarperCollins Publishers, amongst others.

The TumbleBookLibrary provides 
enrichment to students who are reading independently with a variety of high interest material. It also provides support to students who require skill building with a variety of exercises that can be matched with other areas of the curriculum. In general, TumbleBooks are a great addition to a reading program that can be worked on independently by each student or by the whole class. It has been exceptionally well received by ESL and Special Education teachers"

Book: “One for the Money” by Janet Evanovich (1994)
Welcome to Trenton, New Jersey, home to Stephanie Plum, who sports a big attitude and even bigger money problems (since losing her job as a lingerie buyer). Stephanie needs cash--fast--but times are tough, and soon she's forced to turn to the last resort of the truly desperate: family. Stephanie lands a job at her sleazy cousin Vinnie's bail bonding company with zero experience and no problem that the bail jumper in question is local vice cop and ex-boyfriend Joe Morelli.


Movie: “One for the Money” Releases in theaters: July 8, 2011. Starring Katherine Heigl, John Leguizamo, Debbie Reynolds and Sherri Shepherd, “One for the Money” tells the story of newly-divorced Stephanie Plum. The story follows her as she lands a job at her cousin's bail-bond business, where her first assignment puts her on the trail of a wanted local cop from her romantic past.
